PENTLJA Concept Store: A Wonderland of Slovenian Design

Combining Architecture and Fashion in the Heart of Ljubljana

The design of PENTLJA Concept Store is inspired by its name, which means "bow" in Slovenian. The exterior of the store features a specially designed roof that communicates with customers in a creative and innovative way. The transparent plexiglass substructure and waterproof felt bows create a visually striking entrance that combines architecture and fashion.

Inside the store, the focus is on the products themselves. The interior design is minimalistic and functional, with white walls and furniture that almost disappear, allowing the fashion and design items to take center stage. Mirrors are strategically placed throughout the store, including the entire back wall, creating an optical illusion of space and doubling the display area on the stepped stage in front of it. Round glass coffee tables hanging on wires add a touch of elegance to the first room of the store.

With its carefully selected range of Slovenian and regional design, PENTLJA Concept Store offers a unique shopping experience. The store aims to promote and support local designers, showcasing their creations alongside fashion magazines, small gifts, and regional fashion/lifestyle publications. It is a wonderland of pretty things, as heart-warming as a special gift carefully decorated with a bow.

The realization of the design involved the use of various materials and techniques. The exterior roof features a substructure made of transparent plexiglass, with bows made of waterproof felt attached using Velcro tape. The interior furniture is made of joinery, with white as the predominant color. The existing brown counter is covered in mirrors, and the holders for hangers are painted in matte white. The second space of the store features built-in wardrobes with adjustable shelves, metal construction painted in white, and a back wall dressed in mirrors.

PENTLJA Concept Store covers an area of 80 square meters and was completed in October 2015. Since its opening, it has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2017, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
